Winter 2007 Arbitron Ratings Released For Tampa Bay
05/03/08 - The winter 2007 Arbitron ratings for the Tampa Bay radio market have been released.
One of the biggest gains was WHPT-FM 102.5 who went from 18th to tie WFLZ-FM for third place
following their addition of the Bubba the Love Sponge show.

"The Fabulous Sports Babe" Returning to Tampa Bay
04/08/08 - Nanci Donnellan aka "The Fabulous Sports Babe" will be returning to Tampa Bay
radio. "The Babe" will be joining Scot Brantley on WHBO-AM 1470 beginning April 11th from 3 to 6
pm. The show will be called "Brantley and the Babe". Nanci is no stranger to Tampa Bay radio,
starting in 1981 at WNSI-AM, then later at WPLP-AM/WTKN-AM, and the market's first all sports radio
station WFNS-AM (Sportsradio 910). Nanci also had syndicated shows on the former Sports Fan
Radio Network and ESPN radio.
Bubba The Love Sponge #1 in Morning Drive
05/03/08 - The Bubba The Love Sponge show carried out what they promised on their first show
back in the Tampa Bay market in January and went to the #1 morning show in the latest Arbitron
winter 2008 book. Bubba is #1 in the morning demo groups of 12+,18-34,18-49,25-54 and 35-64.
Bubba takes the top morning show rating from WFLZ-FM's MJ Morning show in a very tight race.
WFLZ's MJ filed suit against Cox Radio and Bubba over alleged comments that were made during
Bubba's show. That case is still pending in the court system. It has also been reported that the Bubba
the Love Sponge show will be syndicated beginning January 2009. The show is currently heard over
Cox Radio's WHPT-FM 102.5 (The Bone) in Tampa and WFYV-FM 104.5 (Rock 105) in Jacksonville.
Tampa Bay AM Station Facing FCC Fine
05/22/08 - The owner and operator of a Tampa Bay radio station has been fined by the Federal
Communications Commission (FCC). ASA Broadcasting, owner and operator of WXYB-AM 1520 in
Indian Rocks Beach has been fined $3,200 for repeat violations of the station operating after sunset.
WXYB is only authorized by the FCC to operate during the daytime hours and must cease
broadcasting before or at sunset each day. FCC agents monitoring the station, observed the station
remained on the air after sunset on two occasions. ASA Broadcasting in it's response claims that
there was a technical problem not allowing the station to be taken off the air. Station engineers have
since been able to repair the transmitter and it's remote control equipment.
WFLA-AM News Director Passes Away
06/06/08 - Don Richards, news director of WFLA-AM 970 died Friday afternoon following a fight with
cancer at age 65. Don started his radio career while in the Army during the Korean War as a
television and radio anchor for the Armed Forces Radio and TV Network in Korea. Richards came to
Tampa Bay from Massachusetts in 1980 at WPLP-AM the later moving to WFLA-AM becoming news
director in 1991. Richards is best known as being the only reporter to interview Hank Earl Carr after
he killed his girlfriend's child then taking the lives of two Tampa Police Detectives and a Florida
Highway Patrol Trooper in May 1998. Carr was held up with the store clerk in a convenience store in
Hernando County and during the standoff phoned Richards at WFLA-AM wanting to tell his side of
the story. Carr later released the hostage and took his own life.
06/16/08 - Public memorial services will be held June 28th at 2pm at Good Samaritan Church
6805 Park Blvd in Pinellas Park. A guest book has been set up by the St. Petersburg Times.

Lex and Terry returns to Tampa Bay
06/16/08 - The Lex and Terry Show has returned to Tampa Bay weekday mornings at 6 am on
WXTB-FM 97.9 (98 Rock). The show began this morning, replacing "The Buckethead Show". Lex
and Terry was previously heard on WHPT-FM 102.5 (102-5 The Bone) a couple of years ago. "I am
very excited, as Lex and Terry are an established show that has a proven track record of success"
said Brad Hardin, Regional Vice President of Programming for Clear Channel Communications in a
press release from WXTB. The show is syndicated and heard in over 20 markets nationwide and on
XM Satellite Radio's channel 152.
